Mountain West Christmas

Jack Gladstone’s Mountain West Christmas is a musical Christmas card featuring traditional, contemporary and eclectic arrangements of classic holiday songs. The fourteen selections encompass the styles of folk, country, swing, rock, basa nova, mambo and waltz (ballroom, that is).
Jack’s vocal leads include “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” “Away In a Manger,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “My Favorite Things” and “Silent Night.”
University of Washington “Husky” alumni and tunesmith friends, Ron Blacken and Kendall Flint, provide both vocal leads and harmonies to complete the album.
Described by Jack as having the “purest holiday voice in America,” Ron Blacken sings lead on “If Every Day Could Be Just Like Christmas,”  “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Oh, Little Town Of Bethlehem,” “Silver Bells” and “White Christmas.” (Not even Bing out-glistens Ron on this one, claims Jack!)
Directing the Mountain West Husky Boys Harmony Choir is “Dr. Harmony” himself, Kendall Flint. Under his watchful ears, the voices were arranged, performed and perfected. Kendall takes center stage in “J-I-N-G-L-E Bells” and “Mambo Santa Mambo,” two chestnut-roasting renditions.
Kendall and Ron deliver an innovative interpretation (basa nova) of Elvis Presley’s “If Every Day Could Be Just Like Christmas,” with Jack contributing a lone Husky harmony.
This album also reaffirms the multiple dimensions of co-producer, David Griffith. Dave enhances the tracks with his articulate voice, dobro, guitar and mandolin.
As always on Jack’s recordings, the musical foundation is provided by the “decompression rhythm section” of Scott Powell (drums and percussion) and Gary Snow (upright and electric bass).
Guest musicians include Grammy-winning producer and pedal steel ace Lloyd Maines of Austin, TX, and Houston Symphony, Opera, and Ballet cellist, Max Dyer.
Jack Gladstone’s Mountain West Christmas is a harmonic blend of melodies and memories to share with family, friends and loved ones. Celebrate, rhythmically and melodically, the rebirth of light, however we may perceive thee, back into our world.

Ó2003 Hawkstone Productions.
While attending the University of Washington (’76 –’82), I was blessed with two exceptional roommates.  They become and remain within my closest circle of friends.

The first I recruited, in 1977, for the Husky football program.  Ron Blacken become a standout wide receiver for three of our championship bowl teams.  More than football, however, our mutual love of music created and sustained a lasting bond.  (Today Ron lives and works as a construction consultant in Lake Stevens, Washington)

In 1979 Kendall Flint become my roommate.  Medicine was his academic focus; but in a parallel path, he blossomed in pursuit of song.  “Dr. Harmony” and myself, in the early 1980’s performed professionally as the duo “Gladstone and Flint”.  Upon completion of his medical training, Kendall settled to live and work near the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

This collection is the outcome of friendship, family and several weeks of rehearsal and recording in the winter of 2002/03.  ENJOY!
