Legacy - An Anthology of the Early Years

Jack's Legacy album release is an anthology of his favorite songs from the early years of his career.  Including Jack's most personal and memorable songs from the "In the Shadow of Mt. Lassen" cassette, Jack also re-recorded three songs from the "Wolves on Sea and Plain" album to reflect a newer and fresher perspective. "Legacy" also includes Spiritual Brothers, with guest artist Rob Quist, and Children of the Blackfeet - two songs not previously released.

In compiling this collection of songs, Jack chose those which have meant the most to him and his listeners over the years, and the album liner notes explain how he came to write them. Jack travelled to Austin in September (1998) to again work with Lloyd Maines, producer of the "Buffalo Cafe" album. Scott Powell, Montana's drummer extraordinaire, provided percussion tracks while other fine Austin studio musicians added accompaniments. Wolf, Barn Dance, To Marry the Sun, Last Best Place and Farmer of the Waters have a whole new sound thanks to Maines' musical genius. Other songs on the "Legacy" project include When Copper Was King, Memories Above the Timberline, Miracle Pony Farm, In GrannyÕs House, Alaska Long Live On, Pasadena Free For All , Legacy and In the Shadow of Mt. Lassen, a true, heart-wrenching saga of the Yahi Indians, and Ishi, the last Yahi.
