AS A CHILD

As a Child I’d prepare for war in the name of Uncle Sam
I’d gather toys and play away in foreign lands
I’d always seem to win and live to fight again
As a Child I’d prepare for war
As a Child I’d prepare for war, the kind our fathers fought
On the seas and on the lands, from Europe to Japan
Luckily they won. Is killing ever done?
In busy haste I’d prepare for war
Awaken Child the dreams you held
So close and oh, so dear
Are really not quite what they seemed
Back in your younger years
And the tears shed by the mothers
For their sons and for the others
Have drifted down the rivers to the sea
Will they circle, to fall on you and me?
As a Child I’d prepare for war in the name of Uncle Sam
I’d dress my ships and planes in decals, oh so grand
For we were number one in freedom, and the Sun
would shine on us as we prepared for war
For we were number one in freedom, and the Sun
Shines on us as we engage in war.
INTO A CHILD'S EYES
©2004 Jack W. Gladstone
As I looked into Dad’s eyes for the last time
I saw serenity of heart redeemed by love
As I shook his hand and pulled him close
In what became our final hug
I felt a bow of sunlight bridge us from above
From the mist of ether life delivers promise
Chasin’ rainbows finding joy to rise anew
Today I took a chance, and slowed the dance
And fell on bended knee
As I looked into A Child’s Eyes, I saw you
Earth and Sky are unified in story
Elders turn to rainbows in the fall
They become like children again
(Musical Interlude)
Earth and Sky are unified in story
Elders follow rainbows in the fall
May we see like children again
Till we breathe our final Amen
As I looked into a Child’s Eyes
Look into a Child’s Eyes
When I look into a Child’s Eyes
I see you
I see you
(Goodnight Grandpa, Goodnight Dad)
